Access For All

The BMC is committed to inclusivity in the outdoors; we believe in the power of sport and activity to create social change, unite people and bring them together, to live healthier, happier, and more fulfilled lives. Through our work we will foster a diverse and inclusive community of outdoor lovers, where everyone is empowered to reach their ambitions in climbing, hiking and mountaineering.

We believe that the outdoors is for everyone and yet many people from marginalised communities continue to experience unwelcoming interactions, finding the culture and access to the countryside beyond reach.

To address these barriers the BMC has carried out research, held events, shared stories, built partnerships and taken part in and delivered training around equity, diversity and inclusion. The organisation has employed a D&I manager and has set up an Equity Steering Group who advise around policy, strategic direction and specific issues relating to equity and inclusion.

Nevertheless, the BMC and the Outdoor sector as a whole still have a long way to go. In acknowledgement of this we remain committed and are working hard to build inclusivity into each and every activity, event and project we create.

The outdoors is for you and so is the BMC.
