Day Walks

Activities

With day walks, the world is at the tip of your toes. Day routes offer the freedom and flexibility to see whatever takes your fancy, in as much time as you have available. You can match a day walk to your energy level, from long hilly miles to a stroll along a river. Summit a mountain, circle a lake, stop off at a coffee shop or finish at a pub, it’s completely up to you!

Day walks are perfect for families, beginner and experienced hikers, as well as anyone who wants to feel a sense of adventure without having to commit to an overnight stay. The UK is abundant with great day walk options and doing your research in advance will often unlock a range of routes that are accessible within a day, no matter where you live.

From Roseberry Topping – a fantastic miniature mountain in the North York Moors through to Mam Tor in the Peak, Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons, and the Lakes very own Fairfield Horseshoe – there’s a rewarding route out there for everyone.

There are endless possibilities for day walks, so you can choose one that matches your experience, ability and skills. When planning a route, calculate how long it will take you to get round, considering factors like the terrain - is it steep and rocky, or flat and easy-going? Where does the route start and finish, how will you get there and back, especially if you’re relying on public transport to take you home at the end of the day.
