Mend Our Mountains: Get Stuck In!

Campaigns news

Mend Our Mountains is the BMC’s call to action for every single outdoor-goer, and its message is simple: show some love back to those paths and trails that make it possible.

Our paths, trails and bridleways form an iconic system that is the lifeblood of the Great British outdoors. Those honeypot routes that everyone walks – the paths most travelled – are at risk from the very same pairs of boots that love them.

“Get Stuck In” is a key part of helping repair these paths, and it does exactly what it says on the tin. By signing up to one of these sessions you have an opportunity to get out on the hillside, learning new skills and meeting like-minded people whilst making a real difference to our wild places.

In association with the National Trust, the BMC is arranging conservation projects in the mountains of Snowdonia and the Lakes (with Fix the Fells). Works may involve path maintenance, drainage projects, stepping stones, vegetation clearance or cairn-scattering, led by the local National Trust Rangers.

There will be three 2/3 day events doing footpath repairs in Snowdonia with the NT footpath team. We have also arranged two similar events with Fix the Fells in the Lake District. 3 nights accommodation will be provided (definitely free of charge in Snowdonia, and a grant has been applied for to cover accommodation in the Lakes). There will be 2 work days, giving the opportunity on the third day to go into the mountains just for enjoyment!! This is be open for sign up for BMC members.
